Property Summary
The Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo
It is the first city in America, part of Greater Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, as the oldest urban nucleus. It was the first permanent European settlement in America, founded in 1502 by the first Spanish colonizers. We should call it the Colonial City, but Dominicans prefer to call it the Colonial Zone, or simply "the zone".
For Dominican tourism, the colonial city is of capital importance, on the one hand because it is the country's main tourist attraction and on the other hand because it is the most valuable heritage jewel. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO under the name of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo, on December 8, 1990. Since then, the Dominican people have recognized even more the value of its colonial zone and its importance in the country's economic development.
It is built on a plot of 727.00 m2. It has 3 levels and a consolidated and restored surface of 1,779.72 m2. In its most recent design, it is divided into 10 independent units totaling 18 rooms. However, in an architectural redistribution it can easily exceed 20 rooms.
